Ready for K4!

Can I really be old enough to have a child ready to enter K4?!! Brooklyn is so excited to be going to school in the fall. She will be attending Willow Springs, the public K4 school in our area (yes, an entire school of 22 classes just for 4 year olds!!!) all 5 mornings each week. And, she is ecstatic about riding the bus home to Nana's house at noon!

With the required supplies list in hand, Brooklyn and I headed out to Target for our first school shopping date. I was surprised by the amount of classroom stuff (like paper plates, ziploc bags, etc.) that we had to buy for the teachers, but my elementary teacher friends assure me that that is typical and necessary, so I'm trying to be understanding! ;)

Picking out the backpack was the best part. Of course, she first wanted the Disney Princess and Tinker Bell options, but then she saw the backpack with the princess cat on it, and that pretty much just sums up Brooklyn's current loves! (Can I just say that backpacks are much more expensive then they used to be when I was a kid. They only had one plain boring option for $9.99, and the next step up, which we purchased, were the bags for $16.99, and they had more priced $26.99!). It was worth it, though, to see her so excited about her bag and then to watch her pick out matching pocket folders for the piles and piles of papers and crafts that will be sent home.

Laying out all the supplies on the floor when we got home

Showing Daddy her treasures!

About K4, Brooklyn says, "I think they'll teach me to read at school, but I don't know what else. I have to go there to see. I think my favorite part will be playtime, though I do like writing time, too."

Now just to help her be patient until September 7th, the first day of school! Every night Brooklyn asks if she goes to school "tomorrow," and then freaks out when I tell her that she still has to wait for 20+ more days. Maybe I'll make a paper chain of days to help her get the concept. Any other ideas?

All packed up and ready! Everything fits inside!

I love the "quote from the person on the street" concerning k4. She's quite articulate, isn't she? Like the chain idea; only other option would've been to wait until 7 days before school started to get everything!!

  2. Leave it to an oldest to be articulate, hey? :) I probably should've waited, but it seemed like the school stuff has been "on sale" at stores for so long already, that I feared they would run out if I waited too much longer. Probably not, though! I guess "live and learn!" :)

  4. First of all, it's just so cute to see her all excited to start school! I cannot believe she is going to be in K4 already. Ridiculous, i tell you. hahaha, and I love her hair! How did you do that? It's very cute. :)

  6. lol... I know it's you Jackie. ;) You're the only one with the fifty million number name! I did her hair in twists, and then secured each twist with a bobby pin. It turned out really nice. I should do it more often instead of letting her run around like a ragamuffin with hair in her face!
